Brewery Hops Ordering How-To

How to order hops efficiently and accurately using the Hops Order tab's calculator, based on real-time recipe and inventory data.

Before You Start

This process relies on the Production Management spreadsheet: the HopsOrder tab (a calculator built off the Recipes tab and current Inventory tab), the Recipes tab (recipe info linked to Batches and HopsOrder), and the Batches tab (the master log for every brand/batch produced at Threes).

If the Inventory tab or the Recipes tab isn't up to date, the HopsOrder tab's calculations will be wrong. Minimum supplier lead time is 14 full days.

Process
  1. Open the HopsOrder tab in Production Management.
  2. Check the Batches tab to confirm inventory is current in the "Hops Inventory Reduced" and "Dry Hops Inventory Reduced" columns.
  3. In the HopsOrder tab, fill in Column A with the Recipe IDs to pull hops for. Shortcut: copy the Recipe ID column from Batches for upcoming recipes not yet marked in those two columns, then paste values into Column A.
  4. Fill in Column B (batch count per brand, usually 1) and Column C (location, always 333).
  5. Click Make Hops Orders - this pulls each recipe into Columns E, F, and G (Recipe ID, Hop Variety + Location, Total kGs). A red error in Column F means the hop name doesn't match the Inventory tab and needs to be fixed there.
  6. Check Column L, the delta between what's needed and what's on hand: negative/green means surplus, positive/red means short. Any #N/A means an item needs to be set up in the Inventory tab first.
