Vessel CIP (FV, ST, Grundy)

1. Check the day ahead to see if hoses need to be saved for a transfer or other use before starting - grab a sight glass or extra parts as needed.
2. In a proper CIP, all fittings must be removed from the tank and soaked in caustic solution. Scrub the racking arm and all ports, including the pressure relief valve (PRV) and the port on FVs and STs.
3. FV sprayballs should also be pulled up out of the tank and inspected. Use a white scrubby with caustic, or fully remove if necessary.

• FVs: about 1 bbl, to the top of the racking arm (attached and pointed up).
• STs: about 1 bbl, when water reaches the port.
• Grundys: about 1 bbl, when water reaches the port.

• Alkaline cleaner: 64 oz per 1 bbl hot water.
• High acid cleaner: 64 oz per 1 bbl hot water.
• PAA: 6 oz per 1 bbl cold water.
• Smaller dilutions: 1 oz per 5 gal water.

The goal of this cycle is to remove soil from inside the tank. Caustic works best with hot water - 145°F-160°F is optimal. Make sure the tank is appropriately rinsed before dosing chemical, so you're not pumping large particles into the sprayball and clogging it. Confirm you're getting good action through the pump.

1. FVs: 25 min on the sprayball arm, 10 min on blowoff, 10 min on the racking arm.
2. STs: 25 min on the sprayball arm. During ST CIP, using the female-to-female hose connection, run caustic solution out of the CO2 microvalve and confirm action in the carb stone (the carb stone should be carefully loosened and allowed to soak in caustic as well). Rinse well between all cycles, then 10 min on the racking arm.
3. Grundys: 25 min on the sprayball.

Do a final visual check to confirm the tank walls are free of soil before moving on.

1. FVs: 25 min on the sprayball arm, 5 min on blowoff.
2. STs: 25 min on the sprayball arm. As with caustic, run acid solution out of the CO2 microvalve through the female-to-female connection to get action in the carb stone. Rinse well between cycles.

1. FVs: 25 min on the sprayball arm, 10 min on blowoff.
2. STs: 25 min on the sprayball arm, running PAA out of the CO2 microvalve through the carb stone as above. Rinse well between cycles. Before reassembling the tank, run CO2 through the carb stone to confirm good action and that it's free of all chemical.
3. Grundys: 25 min on the sprayball.

If a tank doesn't pass the final visual check after a full cycle, repeat the caustic cycle before moving to acid - don't proceed with a tank that still shows soil.
